Before They Were Stars: Christian Bale’s First Televised Interview

As you probably know, shortly after the Academy Award nominations are announced, it’s a tradition here at The Back Row for me to do “Before They Were Stars” features on as many of the nominees as possible. Now that Christian Bale has received his second Oscar nomination for American Hustle, here’s footage of his first televised interview ever in 1987. As you probably know, Bale had his breakthrough role at the age of 13 in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun, so here he is promoting the film for Gene Shalit and his gigantic mustache.
