The first trailer for Paranormal Activity 3, this one directed by the guys who made Catfish – Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, has appeared online and I’ve gotta say, I’m surprised that the franchise is still creepy. The final shot of the preview actually succeeded in giving me the willies a bit, which is no small feat, and I guess it just goes to show that the “found document” style really can heighten the tension as a result of it purporting to be reality. I do think it’s an odd choice to make another prequel, though, as the movies Paranormal Activity, Paranormal Activity 2, and Paranormal Activity 3 are essentially meant to be viewed in reverse order. In the words of Zaphod Beeblebrox (the nothingth), “It was an accident with a contraceptive and a time machine.”
