Celebrity Birthday of the Day – September 24

No role is too big or too small for Sven-Ole Thorsen! A former Danish strongman competitor, Thorsen won the title of Denmark’s Strongest Man in 1983, and soon thereafter made the transition to acting and stunt work in films and television alongside his bodybuilder friend Arnold Schwarzenegger – to date, he has performed in fifteen Arnie movies. What I find most interesting about Thorsen’s body of work is the fact that he will play just about any role, some of which are so small that I didn’t even realize it was him in the part! His larger roles are in films such as The Quick and the Dead, Mallrats, The Running Man, Conan the Barbarian and Gladiator, but most of his film roles are just small parts with names like “Thug”, “Terrorist #1”, “German Man” and “Goon” in major movies such as Total Recall, Predator (“Knock knock”), Heat, Ghostbusters 2, The Hunt For Red October, Last Action Hero and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. My personal favourite credit of his is definitely “Lumberjack hit by ball” in Dodgeball, but I would be remiss in my duties if I didn’t mention his role as the villain in the totally hilarious Jesse Ventura alien movie Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe. Thorsen turns 67 today.
