Before They Were Stars: Joel Edgerton as Uncle Owen in “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones”

In light of the “Uncle Owen Ruins Star Wars” clip that was posted on The Back Row yesterday, it’s worth noting that a future star got to play the young version of Owen Lars in the Star Wars prequels. Since much of the filming for Attack of the Clones took place in Australia, a local actor named Joel Edgerton was cast as Owen and he has since gone on to fame with major roles in such films as Warrior and the recent prequel to The Thing. You can first see him at the 5:40 mark of this clip and if you’ve seen Warrior, you’ll probably notice that Joel has bulked up BIG TIME since then! It’s amazing to think that George Lucas cast a LOT of future big-name actors in his Star Wars prequels, such as Keira Knightley, Rose Byrne and Dominic West, yet he didn’t have the slightest idea what to do with them!
