Before They Were Stars: Danny Trejo in “The Hidden”

Our special Halloween-themed Shouts From the Back Row podcast involved the three of us picking a personal favourite horror film for our colleagues to watch and discuss. My pick was the criminally underrated 1987 horror-sci-fi-action flick, The Hidden, which incidentally, was the subject of one of my very first “Robin’s Underrated Gems” columns. The Hidden is awesome for numerous reasons, but amongst them is providing a very early bit part for Danny Trejo. This scene involves an alien going on a shooting spree while inside a cop’s body and Trejo plays a prisoner who gets to utter one line of dialogue (“Hey, hippie! What kind dude of you?”) before being shot. I believe this moment marks the first of many times that Danny Trejo has been killed onscreen.
