The Martian strikes me as unusual for a big-budget sci-fi drama from Ridley Scott. For one thing, it has this quippy, upbeat attitude about it, rather than the desaturated self-seriousness of things like Robin Hood or Exodus: Gods and Kings. But more than that, I find myself intrigued by the casting of people like Donald Glover and Kristen Wiig, actors who are known mainly for their comedy. And since I’m a fan of both of them, I’m hoping this will take their careers in some interesting new directions. I hear the book is good, this rock-n-roll trailer is pretty cool. I guess this is going on my To Watch list.
