I would be remiss in my duties if I neglected to mention the recent scandal that has developed around this (awesome) clip of Katy Perry singing “Hot and Cold” with Elmo from Sesame Street. Apparently her low-cut dress was just TOO MUCH for parents to handle, and after the clip surfaced online, there was a huge outcry from concerned parents everywhere, saying it was just too sexy. Yep. Katy Perry dancing with Elmo was too sexy. The mind reels. I mean, yes, her dress is pretty low-cut, but so what? She’s not showing anything more than one might see on the beach or, hell, at the shopping mall. Not to mention the fact that kids within the standard age demographic of Sesame Street probably won’t even care that Katy is on the show, as they’ll be too busy watching Elmo. Elmo who is, by the way, totally naked.
I think this is just another example of ridiculous television censorship. It’s apparently okay for kids to watch Star Wars cartoons that are full of sci-fi violence and war, but it’s not okay for Katy Perry’s cleavage to be seen by those same children. Does not compute, people. What makes this really sad is that Katy Perry said that the duet was the highlight of her career for her. She’s just trying to entertain! It actually makes me kinda sad.
