Wes Craven’s New Film My Soul To Take Looks Like Standard Slasher Fare

Here we have the trailer for horror auteur Wes Craven’s latest film My Soul To Take, about seven teens who were all born on the same night that a notorious serial killer from their town was killed. Now, sixteen years after the killer’s death, these seven teens begin to wonder if the killer’s soul has somehow infiltrated one of them in order to continue killing. Let me be clear: I’m a big fan of Wes Craven. I love the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, I really dig the highly underrated The Serpent and the Rainbow and Red Eye, and yes, I enjoyed Scream and Scream 2 thoroughly. But Wes isn’t without his missteps. Cursed was a pretty big cinematic turd, Shocker was just ridiculous, and let’s not even talk about The Hills Have Eyes 2. So where does that leave My Soul To Take? Well, I’ll probably see it, since I’m a bit of a sucker for 3D horror movies, as gimmicky and stupid as they may be, but this really doesn’t look like it’s anywhere near Craven’s best material. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
