Stephen Fry Cast As Mycroft Holmes

Fry

FirstShowing is reporting that Stephen Fry has been cast as Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft in the upcoming sequel to Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the Holmes stories starring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular detective. There’s not much news to this story beyond that, but I think it’s a great casting choice, albeit an interesting one. Fry, while an awesome actor, doesn’t look too much like Downey Jr. Still, it’ll be cool to see two actors of that calibre play off eachother. Fry is quoted as saying:

“I’m playing Mycroftin the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr., and that sort of part is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once in a lifeftime thrill.”

Sherlock Holmes 2 starts shooting later this year.
