Remixing the Eccentric: Eduard Khil

It’s Trololo day on TBR, and what better way to pay tribute to Mr. Trololo himself Eduard Khil than by featuring some of the many, many remixes people have made out of the famous clip of him singing? As I mentioned this morning, when we featured the original Trololo clip, the song being sung is called  I Am Glad, Cause I’m Finally Returning Back Home (Я очень рад, ведь я, наконец, возвращаюсь домой), and the clip is from a 1975 broadcast from the Russian channel Vremya (Time). Sometime in 2009, the clip turned up on Youtube and was an instant sensation, to the point where, since having seen the clip, online petitions have been started to bring Eduard Khil out of retirement to sing again. The internet is an amazing thing like that. In response to all the attention this very retro clip has been gaining, Khil actually sent the following message to the official Trololo fan site:

There is a backstory about this song. Originally, we had lyrics written for this song but they were poor. I mean, they were good, but we couldn’t publish them at that time. They contained words like these: “I’m riding my stallion on a prairie, so-and-so mustang, and my beloved Mary is thousand miles away knitting a stocking for me”. Of course, we failed to publish it at that time, and we, Arkady Ostrovsky and I, decided to make it a vocalisation. But the essence remained in the title. The song is very naughty – it has no lyrics, so we had to make up something for people would listen to it, and so this was an interesting arrangement.

The Trololo song has been mixed and remixed so many times that it was tough to narrow down which remixes to feature here. The one at the top has the best video, but of all the remixes I listened to, the one below is definitely my favourite. Long live Eduard Khil!
