What Are You Lookin’ At, Butthead?

Hey, this is pretty cool! As any major fan of the Back to the Future movies knows, before Michael J. Fox was cast as the time travelling, skateboarding, guitar playing Marty McFly, Eric Stoltz filmed several weeks of scenes in the role. It’s one of the most common pieces of trivia surrounding the film, but no one had seen any of the footage that was shot with Stoltz. Until now, that is! Footage of Stoltz as McFly is turning up on the 25th anniversary Blu-Ray edition of Back to the Future, and of course it’s all over the internet. Y’know, I don’t think Stoltz would have been half bad in the role, but Zemeckis and Spielberg were right when they thought that he wouldn’t be as funny as Michael J. Fox. Still, it’s neat to see what might have been.
