Before They Were Stars: Ed Harris in George Romero Movies

In addition to launching the popularity of the zombie genre, George Romero also helped launch the acting career of today’s birthday boy, Ed Harris. After starting out his career by playing numerous supporting roles and bit parts in films and TV shows, Ed Harris was given his first lead role by George Romero in one of his rare non-horror efforts, Knightriders. This 1981 effort is definitely one of Romero’s more obscure and unusual films, a two-and-a-half-hour epic about bikers who peform in medieval jousting competitions! Romero would then bring Harris back for a role in his next film, Creepshow, and let him perform this disco dancing scene, which will undoubtedly be shown on Ed’s career highlight reel.
