I’ve been eagerly anticipating the Joss Whedon-helmed Avengers movie ever since it was announced. Now, as the film draws ever closer, the last few movies that are required to establish the characters who become The Avengers are being released. With Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor being released this year, the stage is set for The Avengers to kick some serious ass come 2012. Which brings me to Thor. I’ve always seen Thor as the weak link in the Avengers line-up. Not because he’s a weak character, but because he’s a god. I mean, here’s a team of awesome superheroes – the Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America – who are all humans that gained their powers through scientific means. Be it super soldier serums or gamma rays or robot suits, these guys are all human. Thor isn’t human – he’s an alien god creature thing. I just don’t know how well his magical hammer and supernatural nature will mesh with the rest of the heroes. At least they’ve made him look pretty cool in the movie.
Which then brings me to the Thor movie! All of my reservations about how well Thor will fit into the Avengers aside, the movie that focuses on the banished thunder god actually looks like fun. I mean, it has Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman in it – both actors whom I enjoy watching – and seeing what Kenneth Branagh does with a superhero movie will be worth the price of admission alone! What do you think?
Thor comes out on May 6, 2011.
