Before They Were Stars: Stockard Channing on “Sesame Street”

If grew up watching Sesame Street, you may remember a character called “The Number Painter”, who would go around painting numbers on random objects in slapstick comedy segments that were done in the style of an old silent movie. Though these sketches would air on Sesame Street for many years, they were originally filmed in 1971 and today’s birthday girl, Stockard Channing, made some of her earliest acting appearances in a couple of them as a frequent victim of the Number Painter’s mischievious actions. It’s pretty funny to think that Stockard was already 27 years old when she appeared in these, yet a full seven years later, she was cast in Grease as a high school student!
