Leonard Nimoy Sings “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins”

In today’s Celebrity Birthday of the Day, The Mike makes mention of Leonard Nimoy’s rendition of “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins”. If you don’t know what that is, there’s no time like the present to find out! Believe it or not, William Shatner is not the only Star Trek cast member who has attempted a singing career as Nimoy released an album in 1968 called “Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy”. It contained a track called “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” where Nimoy sang about Bilbo’s adventures in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and there was even a music video made for it! Apparently, at the time, Lord of the Rings fans were very enamoured by the fact that Mr. Nimoy was such a fan of the series and actually started a brief letter-writing campaign to get a live-action film made which would have starred Leonard Nimoy as Aragorn! Viggo Mortensen just doesn’t know how lucky he really is.
