Some cool stuff from Portal 2, half of which I haven’t watched yet

Let’s get the stuff I’ve watched out of the way first. What you see above is an interactive trailer for the upcoming J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration Super 8, which I think looks absolutely fantastic, that was hidden in the “Extras” menu in Portal 2. To my knowledge, this is the first time a movie has gotten a trailer in the form of a video game, and even if you’re not totally blown away by the short game/trailer thing (it does have minimal interactivity), you’ve gotta admit that this is really freaking cool. Ever since I played Heavy Rain, I’ve been watching video games and movies grow closer and closer together, and while the two mediums will definitely remain seperate entities, more and more we’re seeing cross-promotion manifest in new and (to me, anyway) exciting ways like this. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us video game and movie nerds.

The second Portal 2-related thing I’m posting is the new end credits song by Jonathan Coulton, whose song “Still Alive” became an instant hit when it was played over the end credits of Portal. I haven’t finished Portal 2 yet, so I haven’t reached the end credits, and therefore I haven’t watched this video. I hear it gets a bit spoilery, so watch at your own risk.
