Come play with us….

Over the past couple of decades, a handful of horror movie directors have attempted to make films based around the idea that our childhood fear of the dark was based on something supernatural, and that monsters did indeed lurk in the shadows under our beds and in our closets. Unfortunately, none of these attempts have been particularly good – I’m thinking of films like Darkness Falls, Boogeyman and They, all of which were pretty stinky. But now Guillermo Del Toro is trying his hand at it, and it looks awesome! Here’s a synopsis:

A young girl (Bailee Madison) sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.

I can’t wait to see this movie. It looks like good, old-fashioned terror on film! Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark comes out August 26, 2011.
