Jim Varney will always be remembered as playing Ernest P. Worrell in the franchise of films that include Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes to Jail, and Ernest Scared Stupid. He also provided the perfect voice for Slinky in Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2000 and was thus unable to return for Toy Story 3, and even though the voice actor did a fine job sounding like Varney, just the knowledge that he was no longer with us made the new voice sound sad to me. Or maybe that was just me crying my eyes out during the movie…
