In tribute to the recently departed Peter Falk, here is one of his earliest roles in an ultra-low budget 1959 Canadian exploitation flick called The Bloody Brood. I came across this obscure little gem a few years ago in one of Mill Creek Entertainment’s 50-Movie Packs of public domain movies, and it features Falk as a drug-dealing beatnik psycho who decides to commit the perfect murder by grounding glass into someone’s hamburger. As you can imagine, its portrayal of the beatnik culture has caused The Bloody Brood to age horribly, but Falk still delivers a pretty good performance and he would instantly move on to bigger things by garnering two Academy Award nominations within the next two years.
