Before They Were Stars: Dustin Hoffman in a Volkswagen Commercial

In late 1966, Dustin Hoffman was cast as Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate, a role which soon skyrocket the actor to stardom, but production of the film did not actually start until March 1967. In the meantime, Hoffman still had to pay the bills, so he took a job appearing in a Volkswagen commercial, endorsing their Fastback Sedan, a rare car that actually had its engine placed underneath the rear trunk! Well, the VW Fastback may not have had a long shelf life, but its pitchman certainly did!
