Celebrity Birthday of the Day – July 25

I first heard the name Peter Suschitzky when I was a teenage drama student and very into The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as he was the director of photography on that film. Because Suschitzky’s last name contains a syllable that sounds a lot like “shit”, the Rocky Horror fans at the local grindhouse theatre would always yell out his name as part of the audience participation. Since then, I’ve discovered that Peter Suschitzky has worked as director of photography on an extensive list of top-notch films, having performed d.p. duties on The Empire Strikes Back, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises (can you tell David Cronenberg likes this guy?) and Mars Attacks! Suschitzky turns 70 today.
