Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win (In My Backyard)

I would never describe myself as a huge Beastie Boys fan, but I am a huge Spike Jonze fan, and I’m an even bigger fan of playing with action figures in the backyard, so this music video for the new Beastie Boys track Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win, featuring Santigold, definitely appeals to my tastes. Not only has Spike Jonze succeeded in creating an amazing 11-minute celebration of the way we used to play with toys as kids, but he does it all without resorting to stop-motion animation! This is like the natural extension of all those He-Man and G.I. Joe battles I had when I was a kid, complete with hands occasionally seen holding the figures, and I think it’s absolutely glorious.
