Before They Were Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Henchman in “The Long Goodbye”

It’s Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 64th birthday today and even though I’ve already done no less than three “Before They Were Stars” features on him, you can never have too much obscure early Arnold footage. Anyway, after his disastrous film debut in Hercules in New York, Arnold’s follow-up role was as a bit part as a henchman in the Robert Altman film noir classic, The Long Goodbye. Since Arnold’s command of the English language was still pretty rough at this point, Altman was wise enough not to saddle him with dialogue and his only line in the film is “Flexing muscles”.
