One of my earliest “Before They Were Stars” features showcased Courteney Cox’s first on-camera role in the music video for Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark”, and her next acting job would be an appearance in this 1985 commercial for Tampax tampons. Believe it or not, Courteney would make a bit of televised history here as this was the first time EVER where the word “period” was allowed to be used to refer to menstruation on television. Thankfully, she went on to have a pretty successful career because I wouldn’t want being the first actress to utter the word “period” on TV to be my biggest legacy.
