I like the look of this low-budget apocalypse! The Day is a small-budget post-apocalyptic film from director Douglas Aarniokoski, whose biggest director credit to date seems to be Highlander: Endgame. But while that movie wasn’t exactly awesome, the trailer for The Day certainly makes this movie look good! Starring Ashley Bell, Dominic Monaghan, Shawn Ashmore, Cory Hardrict and Shannyn Sossamon, the film follows five survivors as they wander desolate landscapes fighting for survival and safety. Seems like standard post-apocalypse fare, but something about the visual style and the choice of soundtrack in this trailer has succeeded in intriguing me. Or maybe it’s the fact that it was shot in Ontario. Either way, I’ll have to keep an eye on this one.
The Day will make its debut at the Toronto Film Fest in the fall of 2011, and will hopefully nab a distributor in the process.
