It’s about time! The Rum Diary has been one of my most anticipated films for a couple of years now, as the completed movie was shelved in 2009 (or maybe even before, as production was initially slated for 2004), but at long last, it’s finally seeing the light of day! This trailer is everything I wanted out of this movie. Johnny Depp has proven in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that he can channel the late, great Hunter Thompson’s manic energy, and director Bruce Robinson has given the world two of my favourite films of all time: Withnail & I and How To Get Ahead In Advertising – both totally surreal and willing to explore the depths of insanity. Try to look normal! This is going to be great.
At long last, The Rum Diary comes out October 28, 2011.
