Before They Were Stars: Patrick Swayze in “Skatetown, U.S.A.”

The late 1970s featured plenty of movies that capitalized on the popular fads of roller derby and disco, and while those films may be dated today, it takes a special double-dated film to capitalize on roller disco. Such was the case with the 1979 effort, Skatetown, U.S.A., which is notable for being the film debut of the late, great Patrick Swayze, who plays the role of Ace, the “bad boy” leader of the town’s skating gang. I give Swayze a lot of credit because he did all of his own skating and performed all these stunts himself, but watching this clip, keep in mind that his character is supposed to be a scary badass tough guy.
