NORM!!! George Wendt is another one of those great actors who will always be associated with one particular role – in this case Norm Peterson from Cheers! Wendt played Peterson in every single one of the 275 episodes that make up Cheers‘ eleven season run. Before playing Norm, Wendt was a part of the Second City comedy troupe and also had a small role on an episode of M*A*S*H as a character with a pool ball stuck in his mouth. Since landing his career-defining role on Cheers, Wendt has gone on on to act in numerous films and television series (most noteably one of my favourite episodes of Masters of Horror – titled Family – and the ridiculous-but-awesome film House), but no matter what he does, he will always be best known for playing that loveable boozehound Norm Peterson. I bet he gets really sick of people shouting “NORM!!!” at him. Wendt turns 63 today.
