ROSA

ROSA is an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival.

First off, let me hammer home just how impressive this short is considering it was made with NO BUDGET. The animation on display here is professional-grade, and it was all done by the same guy – Jesús Orellana – over the course of a year! It really goes to show that you don’t need a job with Pixar or Dreamworks to make animated shorts, you can do it all on your home computer with programs like Blender.

ROSA played at the Sitges Film Festival, Screamfest, Los Angeles Shorts Fest and SIFF, before finally landing online for free. I hope Jesús Orellana gets loads of praise for this, because it’s awesome, and he deserves to go places because of it.
