Heather O’Rourke was a child actress who was discovered by Steven Spielberg when she was having lunch with her mother as her sister Tammy O’Rourke was working on Pennies From Heaven. Heather was immediately given a starring role in Poltergeist (beating Drew Barrymore to the punch), the role that would shoot her to fame and put her line “They’re heeee-eeeere” in the popular consciousness. After the success of Poltergeist, Heather O’Rourke landed a role on Happy Days and also performed in a few TV movies, such as Surviving and Around the Bend, before making Poltergeist II: The Other Side and Poltergeist III. Unfortunately, Poltergeist III would turn out to be Heather’s last movie, as she was misdiagnosed as having Crohn’s disease and prescribed medicine which reportedly gave her an allergic reaction, leading to her death in 1988 due to cardiac arrest caused by septic shock brought on by the intestinal stenosis (although some people insist it was the result of the “Poltergeist Curse”, which supposedly killed three other actors associated with the franchise). She was 12 when she died.
