In true TBR fashion, we’re ringing in the New Year with a “That Guy” Celebrity Birthday of the Day! Before he was an actor, Richard Edson was the original drummer for Sonic Youth in 1981 and 1982, leaving the band after the release of their debut album to play in the band Konk. Edson began his big-screen career in a lead role in the 1984 Jim Jarmusch cult film Stranger Than Paradise, and followed it up with a small but memorable turn as a parking attendant in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (seen above). Since then, Edson has appeared in dozens of films and TV shows, frequently playing awesome, sleazy characters. His filmography includes roles in films such as Howard the Duck, Desperately Seeking Susan, Eight Men Out, Platoon, Good Morning, Vietnam, Super Mario Bros., Frankenfish, The Astronaut Farmer, Starsky & Hutch, and Black Dynamite, and he’s appeared in TV shows like CSI: Miami, Cold Case, ER, Nash Bridges, and, most famously, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. I love this guy’s work…but don’t trust him with your convertible. Richard Edson turns 57 today.
