The Hobbit, Only Not

Now, it’s been many years since I read The Hobbit, but…this isn’t quite right, is it? I mean, the dragon’s named Slag – that’s just not The Hobbit. Actually, it’s sorta like the half-Hobbit. In the 1960’s, animator Gene Dietch and designer Adolf Born put together this short “adaptation” of Tolkien’s classic story. And while they did take a number of liberties, it’s still pretty cool to look at. Ralph Bakshi may have already laid claim to the trippiest Tolkien adaptation, but this one definitely takes second place in my books.
