Queen of the manic pixie dreamgirls, Zooey Deschanel was born in 1980 to a family of folks already involved in showbusiness – a dad who’s a cinematographer and a mom who’s an actor. With her foot already in the door, Deschanel decided at an early age that she wanted to become an actress, and got her big break when she was 17 on the show Veronica’s Closet. Her first film role came in the 1999 film Mumford, and she garnered quite a bit of recognition for her small role in Cameron Crowe’s film Almost Famous. Since then, her star has been steadily rising, with some of her more notable roles being in the films Elf, Eulogy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Bridge to Terabithia, The Happening, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Yes Man, 500 Days of Summer, and Your Highness. She hasn’t strayed from television acting, either, and has appeared in the TV shows Weeds, The Simpsons (well, just her voice), Frasier, American Dad, and the sci-fi mini-series adaptation of The Wizard of Oz called Tin Man. Zooey Deschanel and those big, beautiful eyes of hers turn 32 today.
