Before They Were Stars: John Goodman in “C.H.U.D.”

John Goodman started out by appearing in a lot of television commercials in the early eighties, but one of his earliest movie roles was in a cult horror film with one of the greatest titles of all time: C.H.U.D.. In case you’re not familiar with the film, C.H.U.D. is an acronym for “Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller” and the plot involves a bunch of toxic waste being dumped into the sewers of New York City which causes a bunch of underground transients to mutate into radioactive flesh-eating monsters. Anyway, Goodman has a small bit part as a cop in a diner which finds itself under siege from the C.H.U.D.s and, needless to say, he would not return for the sequel, C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud.
