The Lackluster Conclusion to the Sacha Baron Cohen Oscar Controversy

For those of you who came in late, before the Oscars, Sacha Baron Cohen had threatened to turn up at the awards ceremony as his new character from the movie The Dictator, the Academy vetoed it, Cohen insulted them, and then the Academy agreed to let him come in character. Well, here’s the most controversial thing that Cohen ended up doing at the Oscars. Honestly, I’m not that impressed. Sure, it’s chuckle-worthy to see Ryan Seacrest get Kim Jong-Il’s ashes dumped on him, but frankly, I think that Seacrest’s reaction was way funnier than anything Cohen said. Don’t get me wrong: I loved Cohen in Hugo, but The Dictator looks like it’s just being offensive for the sake of being offensive without any attempts to really make it humourous.
