If this movie wasn’t dealing with decidedly sexual subject matter, I’d swear that it was going to be nominated for an Oscar. It’s like The King’s Speech but with sex toys! Unfortunately, this is clearly the kind of thing that the Academy will steer clear of, especially considering that they didn’t even give A Dangerous Method any recognition whatsoever at the last Oscars ceremony. All that aside, I think this looks fun and sexy, and, well, Maggie Gyllenhaal is pretty cute, so to see her in a movie about vibrators isn’t a bad thing at all.
Hysteria comes out in limited release on May 18, 2012.
