Peter Mayhew is a unique actor, and not just because of his height of 7’3. Mayhew built his career upon a single iconic role…but one in which we never see his face: that of Chewbacca in the Star Wars movies. Mayhew played Chewbacca in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In addition to these most famous Chewbacca appearances, Mayhew also portrayed everyone’s favourite wookiee on The Muppet Show, The Star Wars Holiday Special, the Disney ride Star Tours, and in numerous commercials, conventions, and hospital appearances. Outside of the Chewie costume, Peter Mayhew has acted in the films Terror, Yesterday Was a Lie, and Killer Ink, and played the minotaur in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Lately, Mayhew has been living in Boyd, Texas and runs his own business. He turns 68 today.
