The bad-guy character Ralph, in the classic game Fix-It Felix Jr., who longs to be a hero brings trouble to his entire arcade after sneaking into a new first-person shooter game and unleashing a deadly enemy.
Here’s a movie that I very nearly overlooked, and boy am I glad I didn’t! Wreck-It Ralph looks to be Toy Story for video games, with the main character being an 8-bit villain who’s tired of losing and longs for something more, and a supporting cast made up largely of actual classic video game characters like M. Bison, Chun Li, and Zangief from Street Fighter, the ghost from Pac-Man, Q-bert from Q-bert, Bowser from any number of Mario games, and more! Disney must have cut one hell of a deal with Nintendo and Capcom – I’m almost more interested to see which classic videogame characters are left out than I am to see which ones are included. Almost, but not quite. Anyway, Wreck-It Ralph looks like great fun to me, and might actually mark the first time a non-Pixar computer animated Disney release is worth a damn.
Wreck-It Ralph comes out November 2, 2012.
