It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s…a Plane!

An airline pilot saves a flight from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling.

First of all, I just want to welcome Robert Zemeckis back to the world of live action filmmaking. Mr. Zemeckis, your foray into the uncanny valley of motion-capture computer animation was neat and all, but you’re capable of so much more. This trailer for Flight is a perfect example of Zemeckis’ talent – it’s tense, it’s intriguing, it’s got some awesome shots (I love the image of the plane’s wing obliterating a church steeple), and I love the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I do suspect that this trailer is exhibiting another one of Robert Zemeckis’ flaws as a filmmaker: he likes to show you the whole movie in the trailer. The trailer for Castaway is particularly notorious for giving away the ending of the movie, and something tells me we’ve seen an awful lot of the ending of Flight already. Nevertheless, I think this movie looks great, and it’s exactly the kind of film that the mike loves.

Flight comes out November 2, 2012.
