Celebrity Birthday of the Day – June 12

Ladies, ladies, ladies, Jay and Silent Bob are in the hizzouse! Jason Mewes has had a pretty interesting life, when you consider that he’s now a celebrity and was basically a pop culture icon during the 90s. Mewes grew up in New Jersey, which is where he met longtime friend Kevin Smith. Smith was so entertained by Mewes’ crazy antics that he wrote the part of Jay – the vocal half of Jay and Silent Bob – specifically for Mewes, and following the success of Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob were popping up all over the place, especially, of course, in Kevin Smith’s films Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks 2. Mewes also voiced Jay in the short lived Clerks cartoon, and played the character alongside Silent Bob in the film Scream 3. Outside of the Jay character, Mewes also played Lester in Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Vulgar, Fanboys, Big Money Rustlas, Pauly Shore Is Dead, Feast, and Zombie Hamlet. More recently, Mewes has been co-hosting the podcast Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, wherein he discusses his past problems with substance abuse and ridiculous sexual escapades, and under Kevin Smith’s company label has produced and acted in a new animated film called Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, set for release in 2013. Jason Mewes turns 38 today.
