Before They Were Stars: Emma Stone Sings on “In Search of the New Partridge Family”

It’s hard to believe that someone as lovely and talented as Emma Stone could get her start in the inane world of reality television, but that’s where she made her first appearance in front of a camera. In 2004, VH1 was planning to do a modern relaunch of The Partridge Family and seemed to think it was going to be such a groundbreaking television event that an entire reality series should be devoted to the casting of the show! The result of this mindset was In Search of the New Partridge Family, a talent competition show where unknown performers auditioned for each of the roles. 15-year old Emma Stone (introduced here under her real name, “Emily Stone”) auditioned for the role of Laurie Partridge and sang this rather terrible rendition of “We Belong”. Emma actually won the role, but it didn’t wind up going anywhere for her. The New Partridge Family never made it past its pilot episode, so this is a bizarre case where a reality series devoted to the casting of a show actually wound up lasting longer than the show itself!
