Celebrity Birthday of the Day – July 18

Dutch film director Paul Verhoeven is responsible for some of the best camp classics and all-around worst movies of all time! He began his career as a director in the Netherlands, starting with some short films, documentaries, TV shows and feature films throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In 1985 he made his North American directing debut with Flesh & Blood, and in 1987 he gained popularity for directing Robocop. His next film, Total Recall, was a big hit, and his follow-up Basic Instinct was likewise popular. However, in 1995 he directed Showgirls, which is atrociously, notoriously bad, and followed it up with Starship Troopers (which I actually enjoy) and Hollow Man (a pretty big stinker). He directed Black Book in 2006, and then took a lengthy absence from directing. He has another film called Hidden Force announced for 2013. Paul Verhoeven turns 74 today.
