This first sneaky-peeky clip of the new Alex Garland-written, Karl Urban-starring adaptation of the Judge Dredd comic book made its way online last week and…well, much like the first trailer, I’m finding myself a bit underwhelmed. I’m beginning to think that you need to already be a fan of the Judge Dredd comics to get excited about this film, because while the slow-motion gore effects will probably be entertaining enough in 3D, I just can’t help but be reminded of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone Judge Dredd movie. Yes, I know that it probably can’t be helped due to the source material, but doesn’t this teaser clip remind anybody else of the opening scene from Stallone’s Judge Dredd? Check out the 8-minute mark in the clip below and compare. While the newer clip has loads more finesse, it still amounts to Dredd busting into a room, telling his gun to switch modes, and killing a bunch of random thugs.
Dredd comes out September 21, 2012.
