The Man of Crab Fishing

After a long wait and a lot of build-up, the first teaser for the new Zack Snyder-directed. Christopher Nolan-produced Superman movie The Man of Steel has been released. It positively reeks of Nolan’s influence, with it’s somber tone and use of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, and watching it, I can’t quite decide how I feel about it. Superman as a lonely crab fisherman? I mean, that’s an interesting spin, I guess, but it seems a bit out-of-place in a Superman flick. But then, I suppose that’s what they’re going for here; they’re aiming to do for Superman what The Dark Knight did for Batman…right down to not mentioning Superman’s name in the title. Does avoiding the mention of your superhero’s name in the title automatically lend an air of seriousness to the proceedings? I predict that if this is a hit, we’ll be seeing a Flash movie titled The Sultan of Speed and a Captain Marvel movie called The Big Red Cheese.

Getting back to this teaser, although I think that it’s trying maybe a little too hard to be The Dark Knight, I count myself as a big fan of both Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan, and I’m sure that The Man of Steel is going to be a decent flick one way or another. Michael Shannon as General Zod was an inspiring casting choice, and I’m excited to see him pop up in a trailer soon. What do you think, guys? Are you interested in this film?

The Man of Steel comes out June 14, 2013.
