Celebrity Birthday of the Day – September 11

How could anyone not like Ian Abercrombie? This prolific character actor had over 180 credits to his name at the time of his death, and he’s appeared in some pretty awesome properties. Abercrombie began his acting career during World War II, and played early roles in the TV series Get Smart, Columbo, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Fantasy Island. The 1980s saw Abercrombie appear in more fun and campy titles, like the movies The Ice Pirates, Firewalker, and Warlock, and on TV shows like Airwolf, ABC Afterschool Specials, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Faerie Tale Theatre, Murder, She Wrote, Tales from the Crypt, Twin Peaks, ALF, 21 Jump Street, and Twin Peaks. In the 90s, Abercrombie continued to act in campy genre productions, with notable roles being in Addams Family Values, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and, most famously, Army of Darkness.

More recent years saw Abercrombie doing voice work on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and in the film Rango. Ian Abercrombie died on January 26, 2012 at the age of 77.
