Grampa! After starting his career on the stage, Peter Falk became a prolific television actor throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, making appearances on shows such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Untouchables, and The Twilight Zone. In 1971 he was cast in his most famous role: that of Lt. Frank Columbo on the series Columbo. He played the role for 32 years!
Starting in the late 1960s, Falk began to act more prominently in films, with credits including The Great Race, Murder By Death, The Great Muppet Caper, Wings of Desire, and, of course, The Princess Bride. Peter Falk died of pneumonia on June 23, 2011, at the age of 83. Most people know him as Columbo, but Peter Falk will always be Grampa from The Princess Bride in my book.
