Among my absolute favourite character actors of all time is New Zealand actor Bruce Spence. Spence has popped up in some of the biggest movies of all time, including The Matrix Revolutions, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. He’s done a voice in Finding Nemo, appeared in films including Dark City, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Queen of the Damned, Australia, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But his best role by far – in my opinion, anyway – was as the Gyro Captain in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (a role which he semi-reprised in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome). Bruce Spence turns 67 today.
