I must admit, I’m not all that familiar with Billie Piper’s work, but being that she’s a nerd icon thanks to her famous reoccuring role as Rose Tyler on Doctor Who, hers is a birthday that’s definitely worth celebrating! Piper began her career as a singer, appearing on the children’s TV show Scratchy & Co. and in a television commercial for the pop magazine Smash Hits. She was offered a record deal at 15 and had a number one hit on the UK singles chart with “Because We Want To”. She continued to work in the music business until 2001. After a two year break, Piper returned to show business, but this time as an actress, performing in movies such as The Calcium Kid, Things to Do Before You’re 30, and Mansfield Park. In 2005, Billie Piper took on the role of Rose Tyler, the companion of Doctor Who, which she played until 2010. From 2007 until 2011, Piper was also the star of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and her most recent acting appearance was on an episode of the series True Love. Billie Piper turns 31 today.
