Now You Don’t

FBI agents track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.

The premise of Now You See Me is one that I, as a hobbyist magician, have wanted to see for a while now. But looking at this trailer, I can’t say as I’m all that impressed, mainly because this doesn’t look like a movie about magic that was written by anyone who understands magic. The first rule of magic isn’t “Always be the smartest guy in the room” – there is no first rule of magic, except maybe “Practice, practice, practice”. Now, I know that this is nitpicking – Now You See Me is quite obviously a fantasy flick and not really based in reality at all…but the inclusion of Michael Caine is already reminding me of how great The Prestige was, and how much better that film is than this one is going to be. But I can’t argue with a good cast, at least. We’ll see if this one turns into anything notable.

Now You See Me comes out June 7, 2013.
