Alexander Godunov’s career as an actor was relatively short, but immediately preceding it he had a lengthy career as a ballet dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia and the American Ballet Theater. In 1982, after a falling-out with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Godunov moved into acting and appeared in films such as Witness and The Money Pit. His best known role was undoubtedly in Die Hard as the villainous Karl, although I know that I’ll also remember him for his Labatt Ice commercials. On May 18, 1995, Godunov was discovered dead of alcohol abuse in his West Hollywood home. He was 45 years old.
